Thank you to Champneys for Sponsoring our Charity Summer Ball

30 May 2022

We are delighted to welcome Champneys as a sponsoring partner for our 2022 Charity Summer Ball.   This household name won’t need any introduction for many, thanks to their six countryside spas and hotels and range of pampering and wellbeing products.

The Champneys story began in 1925, when naturopath Stanley Lief opened what was the first of its kind in the UK; a health farm known as the Nature Cure Resort.  Lief had been diagnosed with a seemingly incurable heart condition in 1890 but seeking a solution in practice of osteopathy and diet, he cured himself by the age of 16. This led to further study in naturopathy and he then founded what we know now as Champneys in Tring after acquiring the estate from the Rothschild family. Pioneering the concept of holistic health and naturopathy, the reputation of Lief’s resort grew with patients visiting from far and wide and saw the resort have great success.

Lief sold Champneys, which takes its name from former estate owner Ralph de Champneys in the 1950s, and it changed hands several times before it was acquired by the Purdew family in 2002.  They already owned the familiar resorts of Henlow Grange, Springs Health Farm and Forest Mere and so added a fourth to the group under the Champneys name.

Fast forward to today and mother and son team Dorothy and Stephen Purdew have guided the brand to the place it is today, with six countryside resorts, six city spas and a range of globally recognised products.

Founded on the philosophy that health, beauty and wellbeing are inextricably intertwined; their pioneering concepts have inspired a generation.  They commented: “Trends may come and go, but our unwavering commitment to encouraging wellness endures.”

That focus on wellness and wellbeing is something that aligns our two organisations, so we are thrilled that they are supporting our charity ball not only as a sponsor but by donating raffle prizes of a hamper of their fantastic products and a spa day for two.

Lucy Witney General Manager of Henlow Grange commented “We are delighted to be supporting the Club Towers Charity Summer Ball and two local charities.”  By following the links below, you can find out more about their resorts, any deals they are currently running and more about their history if the above has whetted your appetite!
