Record £13,600 Raised for Local Charities

11 August 2022

Every year, our members nominate two local charities for us to support and we are delighted to announce that this year we have raised a record total of £13,696.34!  This is without doubt down to the amazing generosity of our members, our staff and the Club. The charities chosen for 2021-22 were The MS Therapy Centre and Tibbs Dementia Foundation and the funds have been split equally between the two.

Thankfully we’ve been able to run a full calendar of events, and all have been very well supported. We’ve held cake and coffee mornings, a Spinathon, raffles and the main fundraising event in June –  our Summer Ball. All contributed to this wonderful sum.

The MS Therapy Centre was established in 1983, is based in Bedford and operates in both Bedfordshire and Northants. It provides a wide range of therapies, services, and support to enable people with multiple sclerosis to self-manage their condition.

Tracy and Liz representing the Centre visited the Club to be presented with their cheque, pictured below. Tracy McKenzie, Centre Manager, told us: The Bedford MS Therapy Centre is very grateful to have been one of Club Towers’ charities of the year. The £6,848.17 raised will directly benefit people living with multiple sclerosis from Beds, Northants and surrounding counties, ensuring the continuity of their therapies, support and advice.

She also asked us to pass on “a BIG thank you from all the Trustees, staff, volunteers and service users of the Centre.”

The Tibbs Dementia Foundation’s mission is to support local people to live as well and fully as possible with dementia in their lives, by offering support, information and a wide range of activities and social opportunities.

Sarah Russell CEO of Tibbs Dementia Foundation said: “A huge thank you and congratulations to Club Towers for a superb fundraising effort over the last year. The funds raised through the generosity of Club Towers members and friends will make a significant contribution to the work we do in supporting local people affected by dementia. This donation will enable us to continue to offer our wide range of sports activities, such as yoga, bowls and walking football enabling those affected by dementia and their families to be able to access, participate in and enjoy a range of physical and sporting activities and to boost fitness and benefit from the positive challenges that sport and exercise can bring. Thank you, Club Towers, for helping to make Bedfordshire a better place for people affected by dementia.”

Sarah also visited us at the Club to hear the total amount raised and be presented with a cheque from General Manager Steve Davies, pictured above.

Steve said: “It’s been a great year of fundraising and we have been thrilled to get our events calendar back on track in the last 12 months and would like to thank members and staff for helping us achieve this incredible amount. From speaking to both charities, we know the money raised will make a big difference to many local people.”

Voting is now open for the two charities we will support from 1st September 2022 to 31st August 2023. The shortlist and details of how to vote can be found here.
