Racketball Success – Club Towers Teams Victorious in Northants League!

5 September 2024

The 2024 Northants Racketball League concluded recently and our two teams had brilliant success, with our RB1 team finishing top and RB2 in third place.

The league was longer than normal this year with all teams grouped in one division and playing home and away against each other. The eight teams in the league included Lings Club, Diana’s, Kettering Arena, Northampton Saints and two teams from Market Harborough.

Saints, the champions from 2022 and 2023, were favourites again and very strong. But RB1 (captained by Sam Morris) and RB2 (captained by Russell West) inspired their teams to achieve great results across all 14 matches.

The crucial match for RB1 was a rearguard draw against Saints at their club in May. Saints narrowly won three of the five matches by a score of 3 games to 2, whereas we won the other two matches by 3 games to nil. Crucially this resulted in an overall 12-12 away draw against very stiff opposition.

In the return match at Club Towers we turned the tables on Saints, winning four of the five matches, with Sam testing the best player in the county, Ben Shakespeare, to the limit in the other match. RB1 therefore finished the season undefeated, winning 13 matches and drawing 1, 20 points ahead of Saints. RB2 won 7 and lost 7 matches, and came a very creditable 3rd overall.

Congratulations to RB1 for a really good campaign and well done to all the players in both teams this season. …..
