On-Site and Making Good Progress

22 May 2016

It was a tremendous day in April when our chosen contractors, Pellikaan Construction (www.pellikaan.com/en/home), were finally able to get on-site after over 3 years of planning and hard work on the project. Thankfully, the weather has been very kind to us, with cold but largely dry weather during April and early May making the job of clearing the site and creating the required levels much more straightforward.

One of the complications of the project is the geography of the site, with the land rising sharply from the road up to the top of the hill, adjacent to Bedford Modern School. Hence, the ground works have involved a large amount of earth moving to strip the top soil and then create the three large flat areas needed for the club building (housing the swimming pool, indoor tennis courts, gym, squash courts, etc.), outdoor tennis courts and car park. The initial earth moving is now largely complete.

The entrance from Clapham Road has now been constructed to base course level, to allow materials to be safely brought onto the site. The first photo below is taken from the northern end of the site, looking across what will become the car-park to the outdoor tennis courts in the distance. The second photo shows the entrance to the site.

Regular postings on the build progress for Towers Health & Racquets Club will follow.
