Continued Success in County Tennis Leagues
The Bedfordshire County Summer Tennis leagues concluded in September and once again some excellent performances were achieved. Ten of our 18 teams competed in the top divisions – with four teams winning their division too. Our Ladies A team continued their domination by winning all their matches and retaining the Premier Division title from last summer. Equally impressive was a strong showing by the Ladies B team, finishing second in the same division.

Main Leagues
Open A
“Some close fought matches resulted in three wins and one tough defeat – finishing a very creditable 2nd place behind our local rivals, Riverside A”. . by captain Nick Boys.
Open C
“Having lost the first 4 matches, relegation looked a certainty. However, a comfortable win in the fifth game against Flitwick set up a dogfight for the final match against Biggleswade B to see which team would retain its place in Division 2. At one point both Tower C pairs were behind by some margin, before clawing their way back to a win and divisional safety.” ….. by captain Mark Wasilewski
Open D
Following promotion to Division 3 last year the team finished in an excellent 2nd place this summer, winning three of the five matches. It is likely they will be promoted again to Division 2 next summer. Well done captain James Mackley and the team.
Ladies A
“So proud of the team for remaining unbeaten in the summer season and topping the league again, despite fierce competition from our other two other teams. 10 of the 11 top players of the whole league come from Club Towers teams which is an excellent achievement for our ladies”……… by captain Sophie Cable
Ladies C
“Promoted to Division 1 we went up against all the best teams in the league, including Club Towers A and B. It was always going to be a challenge, so to win against Pavenham and Langford A was a fantastic result. A respectable 5th place out of 8 teams in our first season in the topflight!” …. by captain Claire Spires.
Mixed A
“Some marathon matches again this season against Riverside A and Flitwick A, but we won both in another unbeaten season…. successfully defending the league title. Thanks to everyone who played, especially those who stepped in when we were short of players”…. by captain Garry Morris.
Mixed D
“New to Division Two after promotion last year, we relished the challenge of playing better opponents this summer. The squad performed brilliantly, winning 6 out of 7 hard fought matches to finish top of the league. Great to see seven of our squad listed in the top players stats, having played at least 3 matches. Well done Natalie Wright, Sue Middlemas, Juliet Johnson, Elaine Teal, Sri Sreedhara, Gary Armstrong, Nick Murthwaite and Cem Cakir.” …… by captain Karen Wright.
Vets Teams (O45)
Vets Open A
“A solid season finishing in third place in the top division; aiming higher next season!””. ….. by captain Glenn Rudd.
Vets Ladies A
“Seems the tennis gods were not in our favour this summer, with some very close fought out matches. We look forward to taking our rightful place at the top of the league in the next campaign” ….. by captain Nicola Wilson-Fowler
Vets Mixed A
“A triumphant season gaining maximum points by winning all eight matches, thus gaining promotion back to the top division next summer. We also had two new lady players, Nicola Wilson-Fowler and Julia Richardson join the team”. ….. by captain Glenn Rudd
