Winter Round-up

We are pleased to report on another successful league campaign for our 17 doubles teams in the Bedfordshire Winter League. Our Mixed teams performed particularly well, and altogether five of the 17 teams won their divisions, including: – ….

Mixed A in the top division, led by Garry Morris

Mixed C, led by Phil Reynolds – dominating in the 2nd division.

Mixed D in the 3rd division, captained by Karen Wright

Open D in the 3rd division, led supremely by James Mackley

Ladies A in the Vets 1st division, captained by Nicola Wilson-Fowler

Special mentions for Mixed B and Ladies B too. Mixed B, led by Julie Humpherson, finished 4th in a tough division 1, tying on sets in matches against Riverside A and Flitwick A above them. Ladies B, led by Amanda Greenland, finished 3rd in the premier division … their best position ever. Well done to all the players for your support and good spirit in the matches!

How to Get Involved

In the first instance please contact Head Coach Nick Boys on 07810 832774.  Nick will tell you about the match formats and timings, the commitment needed from you and advise which team would be a good fit for your playing ability.

To qualify the league rules state that you must not have played for another club in the same division in the same season.

Please be patient as we have large squads currently, but captains are always on the lookout for players with a good team spirit, who commit to playing home and away matches. We recommend you make yourself known to the Team captains too. Maybe challenge them to a game by organising a four? This is a great way to find the right level team for you and to get noticed by the captains. Their details can be found here.

Vets teams play at 10am on weekdays, usually Mon, Tues and Thurs.

All other teams play at 7pm on weekdays, or occasionally on a Saturday at 10am..

Matches involve two rubbers, totalling four sets and possibly tie-breaks per pair. There are teas after the match so a typical match will last for around 3 hours. Players are asked to pay match fees to cover the cost of the food and balls provided.

Players who commit to our club teams are regularly invited to attend group coaching sessions and practice sessions with other teams. The coaching session schedule is advertised ahead on the fixtures sheet on the main noticeboard, and players are invited via WhatsApp group messages.

For more information on these sessions and to be included please contact Steve Adams (Racquets Operations Manager) at [email protected]
