Announcing our 2024-25 Charities – Blues Foundation & Primrose Car Service

Thank you very much to all those members who nominated and/or voted during our charity selection process.  We had 20 local charities make the shortlist and we are pleased to announce that the two charities that received the most votes were The Blues Foundation and the Primrose Car Service.  For those not familiar with these two great local charities’ work, please read on….

The Primrose Car Service provides award winning transport to cancer patients in Bedfordshire travelling to Addenbrookes Hospital for their radiotherapy treatment. This unique service, established in 2006 and believed to be one-of-a-kind in the UK, operates five days every week with a team of 25 volunteer drivers.  Co-ordinated by a volunteer manager, the service is made possible by the Bedford Hospital Charity and Friends, through generous donations received from the community.

Huge thanks to you all. The Primrose Car Service is a much-valued chauffeuring service that takes Bedford Hospital patients undergoing radiotherapy from their home to Addenbrookes in a door-to-door service during one of the most challenging times in their lives.”

The Blues Foundation is the charitable arm of Bedford Blues Rugby Club. Working across Bedfordshire and neighbouring areas, their mission is to inspire our community through the values of rugby to promote positive and informed lifestyle choices. The Foundation promotes community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for playing sport and physical activity. It also provides opportunities for education, sport, recreation or other leisure time activities for disadvantaged or vulnerable people across the community. Tom Harwood Head of the Blues Foundation shared:

“We are delighted to hear that we have been selected by the members of Club Towers as one of their Charities of the Year for the forthcoming 12 months. A huge thank you from all the team at the Blues Foundation and we look forward to working with the Club and its members during the year. Charitable donations play a key part in funding our activities. This support has come at a time when the demand for our services is at the highest level we have seen since we established the foundation and the funds will enable us to increase our work with the Young People in Bedfordshire.”

We will start our fundraising for the newly selected charities with one of our popular cake and coffee mornings on Saturday 5^th October.  Starting at 9am until the cake runs out!  We are also starting to plan our charity ball which will take place in Summer 2025, look out for the date in newsletters soon.

Thanks again to those members who voted. We raised £17,800 last year – can we beat it this year?! With your magnificent support we have a great chance!
