Tennis

We strive to be the best place to play tennis in Bedfordshire.

Our mission is to drive up participation levels in the County, introducing more players to this wonderful sport for all ages.

Our aim is to create a welcoming tennis Club which continually invests in and improves its facilities and where members feel valued and listened to. Whatever your current playing standard, we invite you to come and sample our first-class facilities and get involved in our social tennis, coaching programmes and competitions.

TENNIS TIMETABLE

3 x purpose-built indoor courts.

The only indoor courts in North/Mid-Bedfordshire.

4 x Floodlit outdoor courts with winter dome option.

We have three purpose-built indoor courts on a carpet surface with LED lighting – providing a comfortable environment for all-year-round tennis.

In addition , we have four floodlit outdoor courts on a “Tiger Turf” artificial grass surface. These outdoor courts are protected by a high-quality tennis dome in the winter season. The dome has internal lighting and a dark blue end of court back-drop to give superb “viewing” conditions. For the summer season, the dome is removed to provide an excellent outdoor facility overlooked by our sun terrace.

Courts can be booked on your phone via our App or at the Reception. There is no additional charge for court bookings.

We try to encourage players at all levels of the sport. We operate group coaching programmes for beginners, intermediates and juniors, and if you like a bit of competition, we have internal box leagues operating for both singles and doubles.

Our social tennis session runs on Saturday afternoons, attracting players of mixed ability, and we have regular competitions. These can be fairly serious, like our Club Championships, or “fun and friendly” such as our Christmas Jumper and Strawberry and Pimms tournaments. We also run regular competitions for our juniors, to help with their development.

Our Coaches

Adult Coaching

All new tennis members are offered a free 4-week introductory course aimed at beginners and early intermediates. This helps to introduce the basics and provides an excellent foundation on which to build.

We run group coaching sessions for different standards from beginner to good intermediate, and these can be booked at Reception. Members are also able to use our excellent coaching team to book themselves individual coaching sessions – either short courses or one-offs – to work on a particular technique or shot.

Our coaching team has a wealth of experience. All are LTA-licensed, graded from Level 3 through to Level 5. See our Coach Profiles above for more details.

When you join our Club, you will be invited to have an introductory session with one of our coaches, to assess your playing standard and guide you towards the group sessions that are appropriate to your playing ability. This will ensure that you get the most from your membership.

Junior Coaching

Tennis is a wonderful sport for youngsters, helping to develop not only ball skills but also the basic movement skills of agility, balance and coordination that underpin many other sporting activities, and important mental skills such as concentration and perseverance. So, whether you want your children to be the next Andy Murray, or simply to develop skills that will benefit their overall physical and mental development, tennis has much to offer.

We aim to drive junior participation in tennis, helping youngsters to enjoy their tennis activities and develop their skills in an encouraging and friendly environment. We run courses for all junior levels from Tots, through mini-red, orange and green, to yellow ball tennis. We also have a performance programme for our more committed juniors and run a number of tournaments through the year – some serious and others more light-hearted!

Our performance programme is part-funded by the Club and aims to provide an accelerated junior coaching route at Club Towers for those youngsters who want to devote more time to their tennis and compete regularly – locally and regionally. The programme provides additional encouragement and support to juniors who demonstrate the desire, talent and application to become (at least!) County standard players.

You can find more information on the days and times of our junior coaching sessions here.
