Cem’s Champs Clinch Captains Cup

Our annual Tennis Captains Cup took place last Saturday. We tried a new mixed doubles format this year which gave a nod to the same format that our teams use in the Bedfordshire League. Our tennis captains play a vital part in organising their teams, arranging practices, informing players on selection and liaising with captains of other clubs. The Captains Cup presents a perfect opportunity to thank current and past captains by inviting them to play in the event. To make up the required 16 places, the remaining places are then offered to players who participate in the Club Towers teams.

The 16 players were split into 4 teams of 4, and then drawn into two semi-finals. The winners of each semi-final then played against each other in a final, while the two losing teams played in a 3^rd/4^th place play-off. Everything went smoothly until the heavens opened and flooded the courts, delaying play for nearly an hour.

Undeterred our intrepid teams came out again and play restarted. The four teams were closely matched but Cem’s team had a ‘little bit extra in the locker’, by winning all four sets in the final.

A great afternoon of tennis was rounded off with a drink on the terrace. Thanks again to our captains and we look forward to future tennis events.

Our upcoming Club Championship finals are on the weekend of 12^th/13^th October. We anticipate some close and high quality finals and you are welcome to come and watch on the indoor courts.
