Tennis Success – Bedfordshire Closed County Championships

We were delighted to see some excellent performances at the 2024 Bedfordshire Tennis County Closed Championships in June … hosted by Dunstable Tennis Club.

Several of our members played in finals along with two of our coaches, Tom Cullens and Danny Pymont.

Here is a summary of how they did in the finals ……

• Coach Tom Cullens was runner up in the overall Men’s Singles final.
• Jessica Gear (age 16) retained her Beds Ladies Singles title, with Sophie Cable as runner-up.
• Coach Danny Pymont won the Men’s 35+ Singles and the Men’s 45+ Singles, with dominant victories in both finals.
• Claire Raddan won the Ladies 45+ Singles. This was a match of two halves, with Claire recovering from a set down before clinching a nerve-jangling deciding tie-break at one set all.
• Phil Reynolds won the Men’s Series 3 Singles in a seesaw match which went to a deciding set.
• Number 2 seeds Robbie Woolf and partner Harry Mabbitt won the Men’s Doubles, beating the strong number 1 seeds in the final.
• Jessica and partner also won the Ladies Doubles, beating Sophie Cable and Jolanta Hawryluk in the final.
• Jessica also won the Mixed Doubles, completing a clean sweep for this highly talented young lady.
• Amanda Greenland and Sophy Bassett won the Ladies 50+ Doubles.
• Garry Morris was runner up in the Men’s Singles – Series 2 final, and also runner up in the Men’s 35+ Doubles and Men’s 45+ Doubles, both with partner Nick Boys.

Well done to our champions and congratulations to everyone for reaching the finals. A great achievement!
