Paris House is an elegant and truly unique restaurant set in the stunning 22 acre deer park of the Woburn Estate in Bedfordshire. It is the perfect setting to enjoy exciting food, fabulous wines and Great British Hospitality.
Paris House was originally built in 1878 as part of The Paris International Exhibition called ‘The Streets of Nations’ on the Rue des Nations in Paris. It was boarded on each side by 28 pavilions representing 28 countries. The 9th Duke of Bedford fell in love with the building, had it dismantled, shipped piece by piece and rebuilt in the stunning grounds of Woburn Abbey. On arrival at Woburn, its fascinating history continued, playing its part as a tonsil hospital, staff accommodation and a bolt hole for Winston Churchill when he was at Bletchley before becoming a restaurant in 1983.
The new Paris House opened in 2010 under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef, Phil Fanning, and in 2013 Phil and his wife Claire took ownership of the restaurant.
At Paris House we are focussed entirely on customer experience. Modern British tasting menus from Phil Fanning take guests on an exciting and memorable culinary journey in a beautiful British setting. As a direct result of customer feedback, we refurbished the entire restaurant and kitchens in April. We focused on making the customer experience less formal and much more warm and friendly. Impeccable service from our cosmopolitan staff makes customers feel totally at ease and ensures that they thoroughly enjoy their experience – fun and unrivalled knowledge are injected in equal measure.
Guests see Paris House as a special treat and the perfect place to celebrate with family and friends. Our Chef’s Table experience takes service to another level, with dishes introduced personally by the Chefs who made them and guests able to watch the whole service unfurl right in front of them in the heart of the kitchen. Taking time for customers is very much at the heart of our ethos.
We have some fabulous relationships with local businesses such as Volkswagon, Aston Martin Works, and BI Worldwide working with them to create great dining experiences for their staff and customers. We also run ongoing promotions with employees or members of local business such as Woburn Golf Club & Redbull Racing.
Phil demonstrates at local Food Shows such as Taste Bedford, Knebworth, Northampton Food Show to take Paris House out into the community. He judges for the MK and Northants Food Awards, constantly seeking to promote good food in the county. We work closely with local producer Mrs Middleton’s Oil to help with recipe development on their oils and dressings.
We support local charities through providing auctions and raffle prizes. When we refurbished we auctioned off our red chandeliers for local charity, Mia’s Wood – introduced to us by one of our customers, raising over £1000. We have welcomed students from Milton Keynes College to experience what it’s like to work in a professional kitchen and Phil has shared knowledge and advice to help this new generation of potential chefs. We were also involved in last year’s Soup Kitchen project in Bedford.
