“Members “get on their bikes” to Raise £3K for Local Charities

8 March 2024

Last Saturday, a record 60 members and instructors joined us for the Club Towers 2024 Charity Spinathon and we are absolutely thrilled to announce that they helped us to raise over £3007 for our member chosen local charities, FACES and St John’s School. An absolutely phenomenal achievement!

A huge thank you to our wonderful instructors, Maija, Jason, Dave, Matt, Hazel and Jayden, who pulled the programme together and without whom the event could not run!

We had some awesome themes and outfits this year and even a choreographed routine from Grease for our movies class!  Maija transformed into Freddie and started the afternoon with some Queen anthems, which really got everyone in a fantastic mood.  Next up on the bike was Jason, who took us to the sunny island of Ibiza for some anthems and some very short shorts!  Class 3, saw one or two or six Dave’s in the room as the one and only Dave took to the bike for some R and B hits.

It’s at this point that those doing all five classes start to flag but the music and Dave’s energy kept everyone going.  Following closely on his heels was Matt with some drum and bass classics, fuelled by jelly babies and jaffa cakes to keep everyone cycling.  We finished the afternoon with Hazel and newly qualified Jayden who took us to the movies and entertained us all with their Danny and Sandy routine.  We hear that there was choreography support from Garry from our Fitness team and lots of practice put in.  It paid off!  It was absolutely brilliant!

A massive heartfelt thank you to them and Fitness Manager Katy for putting together an achievable and hugely enjoyable programme.

Next up we would like to thank every member who took part, whether for one class or all five – you all helped make the afternoon a resounding success. There so was much energy, enthusiasm, warmth, and positivity coming from the studio, it really is quite special.  And as for the outfits….. well everyone really outdid themselves this year – they were spectacular!  You can see lots of them on our Facebook page.

A special “shout out” to those who did all five classes: Natalie Tillett, Louise Thompson, Neil Thompson, Kevin Shulver, Sylvia Wajzner, Gareth Frow, Di Webley, Emma Stopford and Poonam Chand.  You are heroes in our eyes!

We finished the event with a delicious buffet and some celebratory fizz in the Club Lounge (thank you to Marlon and team for putting on such a lovely spread!).  The perfect end to a magnificent afternoon of exercise and fundraising.

Michaela Martindale from FACES wanted to thank all the members who took time, “We are so grateful to everyone who took part and to the instructors who put on from what sounds like a brilliant afternoon and raised so much for us and St John’s. Please know that the money will make such a difference to local people.”

Amanda Rizzo from St John’s School in Kempston echoed her sentiments “We are so thankful to Club Towers and it’s members for raising so much money for us and our children. We’ve already started to spend some of the money helping those who attend our school. Thank you!”

If you’ve been inspired by those getting on the bikes, it’s not too late to donate at our GiveWheel page – Charity Spinathon! – GiveWheel or in the Club at Reception.

We’ve included just a few pictures from the afternoon below, if you’d like a copy of any, please do let Jo know via [email protected].

Looking ahead, it’s not long until our next Fitness event, with our iconic Fitness in the Bubble taking place on Saturday 23rd March. A two-hour mash up of all our favourite classes under our tennis bubble before it comes down for the Summer. You can read more about the afternoon here.
