Member Inspiring Story – Group Cycle Instructor Louise takes to the hills in daring bike ride!

Our latest inspiring story is from one of our brilliant group cycle instructors Louise Thompson.  As those who attend her classes will know Louise is an avid cycler and is this week undertaking a huge challenge; a 400km bike ride on the Italian coastline!

Louise is part of a small cycling team of five ladies – Team Pink – and they have joined forces with London Luton Airport’s fundraising team (and fellow member and husband Neil) who are raising money for the East England Air Ambulance and Luton Foodbank.  The team of twenty-three will fly to Sicily to start the four-day bike ride, which will take them along the Northern Sicily Coast, starting in Catania and finishing in Palermo, a total distance of 386km.

Yes, a gorgeous coastline, but also extremely hilly and dangerous in places in 30-35 degree heat!  Although this Summer in the UK has unusually given us some training in those types of conditions, this is still going to be very challenging even for an experienced rider like Louise.

Louise teaches five group cycle classes with us and has also been in the gym for extra strength and endurance training to prepare her for this challenge, with lots of moral support and advice from fellow instructors and our personal training team.

Team Pink’s fundraising target is £50,000 and they are very nearly at £40,000 – already an absolutely fantastic amount!

If you would like to support Louise and her team, their fundraising page is here – https://gofund.me/e069ef3f.

We would like to wish Louise and all the cyclists the very best of luck and we look forward to seeing her back in the rather calmer environment of our studio next week!

If you are training for a challenge and would like some advice from our training team, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Fitness Manager Katy who will be happy to help, [email protected].
