Grand Slam Singles Tournament – Dramatic Final sees Sophie Cable Claim the Win
A super sunny Saturday afternoon saw fourteen members compete in the Club Towers Grand Slam Singles tennis event. A hotly contested round robin section saw players split into two groups, playing timed matches in an effort to top their group and make the final. At the end of the matches the group winners were Sophie Cable and Mario Santos-Costa.
Watched by fellow competitors, Sophie shot into a convincing 3-0 lead in the final, playing consistent and accurate tennis. Mario’s more aggressive style needed to find its range and it did! Three tight games saw him level the match and the points became longer and tighter. Eventually with time running out, Sophie managed a vital hold of serve to emerge victorious.
Well played and thank you to all the competitors. The afternoon was great fun, competitive and played in a fabulous spirit.
