Fun and Fundraising! Summer Ball Raises £6,300 for Local Charities.

14 July 2023

Our Charity Summer Ball is always the highlight of the Club’s social calendar and this was again absolutely the case this year.  The evening was a delight: good food, great music and dancing and wonderful company.  The icing on the cake was that we raised £6,300 on the evening for our members’ chosen charities; the Sue Ryder Hospice in Moggerhanger and the Elisabeth Curtis Riding Centre for the Disabled in Bromham. A huge “thank you” to all of our members who joined us that evening – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

We started the evening with fizz and canapes in the Club Lounge before making our way into the beautifully decorated marquee.  Once seated, guests were treated to an excellent three-course menu, plus a cheese board to finish. We must again at this point thank our sponsors who help us to make our ball cost-neutral so that we can donate as much as possible to the charities; our lead sponsor Group One BMW and Mini, our Gold Sponsors, Evelyn Partners, Polam School, Baker Brothers Diamonds and Soza Health and our silver Sponsors, Ampthill Fireplaces, Hazel Kaye Hair, Beauty and Facial Aesthetics and Lane & Holmes.

Thank you to Andrew Wilmer from Lane and Holmes for once again running a highly entertaining auction. We are delighted to report that the six auction prizes raised £4,400.  Thanks to Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company, Baker Brother Diamonds, Group One BMW and Mini and Champneys for their donations, and also to the members who bid on them to enable us to reach this fantastic total.

A further thank you to those who donated raffle prizes. We raised a fantastic £1,050 selling raffle tickets with the chance to win some brilliant prizes.  Thanks goes to Champneys, Michael Baileys, the Plough at Bolnhurst, Wilde Hampers, Hazel Kaye Hair, Beauty and Aesthetics and Woburn Safari Park.

After the raffle and auction, it was time for music and dancing and more cocktails which we enjoyed until the early hours.

Nick Burr from the Sue Ryder Hospice in Moggerhanger commented: “We are so grateful for the fantastic support from Towers Health & Racquet Club and its members. With Sue Ryder’s costs rising by 20%  the donation by Towers Health & Racquet Club will enable us to continue to be there when it matters.  Thank you to everyone who went to the ball and the companies that sponsored or donated.”

And Al Barnes from the Elisabeth Curtis Riding Centre for the Disabled followed with:

‘Congratulations and thank you to all who attended and made the Summer Ball such a success – it looked like an amazing evening yet again! The total raised for the supported charities is outstanding and demonstrates the incredible generosity of your members. Funds donated to us will be put to great use immediately to help us provide our service to an ever-expanding list of participants who find therapy and fun at our Centre.”

We captured the evening with lots of photos which are available to view on a tablet at Reception. If there are any you would like to be sent, simply ask a member of the team and they will do so.  We’ve also shared a few below.

We will shortly be announcing the final total raised for the charities over the last 12 months and also the new charities we will be supporting over the next 12 months.
