Free Squash & Tennis Taster Sessions for Under 11s

4 December 2020

Squash and tennis are fantastic sports and there is no better time to pick up a racquet and start learning than when you are young! That is why from January 1st we are changing our 4-11 membership category to be inclusive of Racquets. We really hope this will encourage more of our younger members to come and give either tennis or squash (or both!) a try. What can be more fun than running around and whacking a ball against a wall or over the net?

What are the Benefits of Racquet Sports?

There are several fundamental areas of physical fitness and mental and social development that tennis and squash can really help your child with, such as:

  • Agility
  • Balance
  • Stamina
  • Core strength
  • Hand Eye Coordination
  • Mental skills such as concentration and determination
  • Learning how to deal with competition – winning and losing

The list could go on, but these are skills that are transferrable to many different sports and why racquet sports are so good for youngsters to get involved in.

Another wonderful and often overlooked facet of tennis and squash is that, unlike some sports, players have great longevity – just ask our Super Vets currently taking part in the Tennis Club Championships! Once you have learned and enjoy playing, it is a skill you have for life and wherever you go in the country or the world you can always walk into a Club and enjoy playing amongst like-minded people.

The key thing for us is that juniors enjoy their sport. If they enjoy what they are doing they are much more likely to stick with it and much more likely to improve along the way. The emphasis on our sessions is very much about having fun whilst doing some exercise. It really does not matter if your child has never picked up a racquet before or does not consider themselves particularly sporty. Anyone can enjoy tennis and squash and the beginner / junior balls make starting up much easier than it used to be.

How does my child get involved?

Well this one is easy. At the start of each term we will be running some taster sessions in both squash and tennis. These will be run by our expert coaching team and will be free to take part in with absolutely no pressure to sign up to anything afterwards. Just come and give it a try!

The details of the taster sessions are below and you can sign up at Reception.

Squash

Wednesday 6th January 5pm – 5.45pm (8 – 11 year olds)

Saturday 9th January 9.15 – 10am (4 – 11 year olds)

Tennis

Monday 4th January 4 – 5pm, (red and orange ball)

Monday 4th January 5 – 6pm (Green and Yellow ball).

Wednesday 6th January 4-5pm (red and orange ball)

Wednesday 6th January 5-6pm (green and yellow ball)

Saturday 9th January 9-10am (red and orange ball)

Saturday 9th January 10-11am (green and yellow ball)

As a rough guide, the red and orange ball sessions would be for 4 – 9 year olds and the green and yellow ball for 8/9+ age groups. Our coaches will move the children into the right groups on the day though so no need to worry too much!

Don’t worry if you don’t have a racquet, these will be supplied.  Please do wear clean, non-marking shoes (no black soles).

If your child isn’t sure if they would prefer tennis or squash they are more than welcome to try both and if you can’t make the above sessions, please do let us know and we will try to arrange another time.

If you have any further questions about the tasters or what is on offer for your child after these sessions these please do speak to our Racquets manager Nick Boys at [email protected] or to our Reception Team.

We hope to see you on court soon!

Nick and Steve
