Esteban and Emma are Winners at 2023 Towers Cup

The prestigious annual Towers Cup took place last weekend under cover in the dome.  The field was slightly smaller this year, down to five pairs, but they were all highly competitive, well-balanced and ready for the competition. Each match consisted of three championship tie breaks: two singles (men’s and ladies’) plus a mixed doubles.

After a solid warm up and four rounds of intense competition there were two potential winners ready to play in the final round. These were the teams of Glenn (2022 Champion) and Rebecca, and Esteban and Emma.

With the ladies’ singles on first, we saw some fantastic rallies and Emma edging the win over Rebecca 10-8. The men followed and Esteban worked tirelessly to counter Glenn’s courtcraft, eventually wearing him down to also win 10-8. The mixed followed with more outstanding rallies, chasing and retrieving from both sides. Eventually Emma and Esteban took the tie break 10-6 and with it the title 3-0.

Thanks to all the players for their efforts on the court – it was a pleasure to watch! Thanks also to the Club Lounge for providing the food afterwards.
