Club Towers Golf Day an Above Par Success

23 September 2022

On Monday 12th September five groups of golfers turned up in glorious sunshine to compete in the prestigious annual Club Towers Golf Day at Pavenham Park Golf Club. No one turned up at a different club this year, we are glad to report!

The day got off to a great start with delicious bacon rolls and good strong coffee as well as some solid pre-match banter!

The two-year reigning champions were itching to get on the course to prove their champion style but with their handicaps severely cut it would prove a challenge!

On the 1st tee, the starting group hit their eagerly anticipated and rather nervous shots in front of a baying crowd and the competition was off!

The weather was truly Autumnal with sun, rain, and wind prevalent throughout the round which added to the challenging greens at Pavenham this year, but all played well and enjoyed the round regardless of the changing elements!

Late on in the afternoon as everyone gathered in the lounge, the food was devoured and replenishing fluids taken on board – maybe some alcoholic – whilst the scores were scrutinised by the tournament officials (me).

And so, to the winners on the day:

Nearest the pin was Niall Hamshere

Longest Drive was Tom Albone

Champion Team was Babs Rai, Craig Westley and Neil Dyer scoring 85 points (second team 82 points)

Champion golfer with 42 points Craig Westley (second place 40)

Thank you to PPGC for hosting and for all the players for making the day so enjoyable.
