Blott & Bartlett Prove the Perfect Pair!
Our hardy and seasoned advanced Squash players competed in a frenetic night of Squash Doubles last Friday night, and it didn’t disappoint. Doubles is a hair raising, heart in-the-mouth battle with players in close proximity testing their reflexes to the limit. Blink and you miss it. The rallies are long and extra heat in the ball makes it fly even quicker.
This was a knockout tournament with each round played to the best of three games. All the games entertained but there were three stand-out pairings, and the victory could have gone to any of these three pairs. Tony Blott with Lee Bartlett came up against Steve Barlow with Ian Thomas in the first semi-final and this was a long-rallied classic, narrowly won by Tony and Lee after coming back from a game down. The final was even closer! Tony and Lee won the first game 11 – 8 and Mike Sturgeon and George Allen hit back to steal the 2nd game 15 – 13.
The stage was set for the deciding 3rd game and Tony and Lee forged ahead, only for Mike and George to go on a charge with 6 points in a row. They were almost home & dry at 9 – 5 up (needing to reach 11), only for Tony and Lee to have one last push. An almost superhuman effort with gut wrenching rallies dragged the score back and Tony & Lee narrowly closed it out at 11 – 9.
A great night had by all!BACK TO NEWS
