Beginner Racketball Course Starting 25th February 2023
Racketball is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports and we have seen fantastic growth in interest from our members in the last 18 months. Whilst Racketball is very similar to Squash in many ways there are some differences; the main ones being the sizes of racquet and ball. Squash racquets are 27 inches or shorter, whilst Racketball racquets have a maximum length of 22 inches. Racketball balls are 57mm diameter compared to Squash’s 40mm and they are also heavier and bouncier, which means the ball moves slower than a squash ball. The rules of serve are also different between the two sports.
Because the ball moves slower it makes Racketball slightly more accessible than Squash to some. For those who enjoy Squash but find the physical demands too great, Racketball is a middle ground and still a fantastic workout. It is also well suited to tennis players looking for a good workout.
To give members an opportunity to try the sport, we’ve put together a three week course that will start on Saturday the 25th February running until the 11th March from 2pm – 3.30pm.
The new course will provide an introduction to the game, the basic rules, movement and techniques. Led by one of our qualified Level 2 coaches, the course is perfect for beginners and early learners. It is also a great opportunity to meet other players and it will give you a pathway into further playing opportunities at Club Towers, including our Racketball Club Night (Thursdays 5.45 – 7.15pm) and competitive box leagues.
The course is £40 and open to racquets members aged 16 plus, and booking is open at Reception now. Don’t worry if you don’t have a racquet! We have plenty you can borrow, but please do remember to wear clean non-marking shoes.
Non-racquets members can upgrade to racquets membership should they wish to join the course, and this can be done at Reception at the time of booking.
If you have any questions about the course or can’t make these dates but would be interested in a future course, please get in touch with our Racquets Operations Manager Steve Adams on [email protected] who will be happy to help.
