Announcing this Year’s Charities – the Elisabeth Curtis Riding Centre & The Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice.

9 September 2022

A big thank you to those members who took the time to vote for the charities we should support over the next twelve months. We are delighted to announce that the charities we will be fundraising for are the Elisabeth Curtis Centre, Riding for the Disabled and the Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger.

Back in July our members nominated fourteen charities they thought deserved our financial support over the coming year. Then, in August, we asked members to vote for which two of these fourteen they would like us to support. The Elisabeth Curtis Centre, Riding for the Disabled, received the most votes, very closely followed by the Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice.

Every year the Club holds a series of fund-raising events for members and staff with the main event being our ever-popular annual Summer Ball (save the date, 1st July 2023!) with all money going to the member chosen charities.  We were thrilled to recently announce that in our 2021-2022 fundraising year we raised over £13,600.  The local charities who benefitted were the MS Therapy Centre and the Tibbs Dementia Foundation where will know money raised will make such a difference.

We now look ahead to our new fundraising year supporting your newly chosen charities. For those that aren’t familiar with them and their invaluable work, here is a bit of background:

The Elisabeth Curtis Centre, Riding for the Disabled has been based in Bromham since 1975 and provides therapeutic riding sessions for disabled and special needs participants. Mainly catering for young riders, the centre can offer new skills, fitness, confidence building, postural therapy and most importantly fun! The Centre has a growing waiting list of new participants and needs funding to be able to train new coaches to help them. In the coming year they hope to introduce carriage driving as a new activity to cater for those who can’t physically ride a horse.

Chair of Trustees, Victoria Liston, said:  ‘On behalf of all our Elisabeth Curtis Centre participants and volunteers, I would like to express our sincere appreciation and delight at being nominated by Club Towers’ members to be one of your supported charities over the next year. We were thrilled to hear this news following months of effort to rebuild and restart our operations post-pandemic. We have been able to welcome back nearly all of our participant riders to riding sessions, but we have many more on a waiting list that we would like to help as soon as we can facilitate it. To do this we need new coaches, volunteers and, of course, funding – which is why the amazing support from Club Towers will be significant in helping us achieve our aims. We are looking forward to an exciting few months ahead as we continue to develop the centre and the activities we can offer. Thank you all so much for your support and we look forward to working with you, over the next year, to help generate some fun and exciting fundraising opportunities.’

Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger provides expert care for life-limiting conditions. They help with everything from pain and symptom management to emotional and practical help. Their expert team offers many services to help families. Doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational and complementary therapists, nursing assistants and a family support team all work seamlessly together. They are experts in supporting people through the most difficult times of their lives.

Tori Ablard, Head of Hospice Fundraising commented: “We are delighted to be chosen as one of Club Towers’ charities for the coming year. Your support will help us to provide even more expert and compassionate care. Our teams work tirelessly to ensure that our patient’s symptoms and pain are managed so that the end of people’s lives can instead be filled with friendship, family and love in those final moments together. Thank you once again for your support, we can’t wait to work with you.”

We are looking forward to fundraising with members and raising lots for both charities. We already have a number of events planned, so please do get them in your diaries!
