Winter Solstice Yoga Practice: Rooted in Darkness, Rising Toward the Light – Fully Booked

Earlier this year we celebrated the longest day, so it feels perfectly fitting to now honour the shortest. We are pleased to share that we will be hosting a two-hour, chakra-aligned Hatha and Yin experience, guided by Maite and Jane on Saturday 20th December, 4 – 6pm . They have shared the following reflection on the practice:

As the longest night of the year arrives, we gather to honour the turning of the seasons. The winter solstice invites us inward – into our bodies, our breath, and the deeper layers of our being. This practice offers an opportunity to prepare for the darker months ahead, meeting them with steadiness, courage, and the quiet glow of our inner light.

A Practice Aligned with the Chakras

Throughout the session, we will bring mindful attention to three powerful energy centres:

  • Root / Muladhara – to ground, stabilise, and cultivate a sense of safety
  • Solar Plexus / Manipura – to ignite courage, inner fire, and self-trust
  • Crown / Sahasrara – to open to clarity, connection, and the guiding light within

Through movement, breath, and stillness, we awaken these energies and allow them to flow in harmony – anchoring ourselves to the earth while expanding into spacious awareness.

What to Expect

First Half: Hatha Yoga

A slow-flowing, grounding sequence designed to strengthen and stabilise. Expect intentional movement that supports alignment of the chakras, steady breathwork, and practices that root your energy deeply while gently building inner heat.

Second Half: Yin Yoga & Deep Relaxation

We then shift inward with a nourishing Yin sequence, inviting softness, surrender, and emotional spaciousness. The practice concludes with an extended relaxation bathed in the resonant tones of singing bowls – sound vibrations that help release tension and guide the mind toward stillness.

The extended class is free, available to all members over 16 and suitable for all levels and abilities.  We have 18 spaces available and will also operate a waiting list.

Please note for this event we will be giving priority booking to those who did not attend the summer international yoga day practice.  Booking will open for those who did join us in the Summer at 9am on the 1st December.
