Spotlight on Boxing Fit
Boxercise has been on our group exercise timetable for a while and has evolved over time. Experienced PT and boxer Jan has developed the class using his own learnings and feedback from members to ensure that all participants enjoy it and get the most from it. And so, we decided it was time to give it a new name, Boxing Fit!
This boxing class led by Jan is designed for beginners, fitness enthusiasts and experienced boxers alike. It is a high-energy session that blends fundamental boxing techniques with cardio and core strength to help you improve cardiovascular endurance, muscle tone and confidence.
The short video below should give you a feel for the class:
Why we love boxing as a workout!
There are so many benefits to boxing fitness and we’ve highlighted just a few of them below:
- Stress relief: as with all exercise, it’s good for our mental health and the endorphins are released, but there’s something particularly cathartic about the movement of punching for relieving stress.
- It’s a cardio workout! It will get your heart rate up and help your heart health. And help burn a few calories too!
- It will help with full body strength. Yes, your arms do a lot of the work, but so too do your feet and your core will definitely be needed meaning your whole body gets a workout. If done regularly and consistently you will see an increase in your overall strength.
- It will improve balance and co-ordination. Boxers are known for their footwork and this class will incorporate footwork exercises, which in turn aid balance.
- Gives our brain a workout. The concentration required for boxing helps in sharpening the mind and improving focus. Giving us a chance to stop our busy brains whirring with to do lists – at least for a few minutes!
You’ve convinced me, when can I do the class at the Club?!
We run the class twice a week: Saturdays at 8.45am and Tuesdays at 9am in the mind and body studio. The class is also suitable for our junior members aged 14 and up and as with all our classes we get a balance of men and women attending. Boxing is not just for men! Gloves are provided so you don’t need to bring anything with you.
The class can be booked on the app from six days in advance as usual.
