Regaining Control Through Coach Ann’s Flexible Approach to Nutrition
I remember very clearly the decision to sign up to the nutrition programme with Coach Ann at Club Towers. I was in a hotel room in Glasgow over Christmas 2023 and my husband and I were looking at the information on the programme. After some years where I thought I was ‘losing’ at nutrition and other years I thought I was ‘winning’ I realised I no longer felt in control. I felt like my poor choices and weight gain were “happening to me” and I didn’t feel I knew how to change this. That’s not to say I was a complete novice to nutrition and healthy eating. I had looked into it, sought and followed advice in the past. Vegetables, fruit and lean meat were always my friend and exercise was a regular part of my life. However, I could see my choices weren’t making me happy and that I needed a change. At this stage in my life I realised the potential health benefits were as big a driver as the body shape benefits and that any real change had to be sustainable and maybe even a little flexible. With this mindset I thought Coach Ann’s nutrition programme based on the coaching curriculum developed by Precision Nutrition (PN Coaching) was a good option to try. More than a year on I am so glad I made that first decision to sign up.
The biggest change for me is that I now feel like an active participant in my nutritional and exercise choices. I regained control. It soon became clear to me that healthy nutrition is about a constant stream of choices. My relationship with my nutrition isn’t defined by any single choice, but rather by a consistent series of choices. This programme has helped me work towards being accountable for my choices and has also enabled me to feel compassionate towards myself about the decisions I make. This has helped me find the sustainable but flexible approach I was seeking.
The programme introduced me to lots of new information, ideas and perspectives. Not every topic or challenge resonated with me, but they usually made me observe and learn something about myself. The structure of the programme also allows you to deep dive into areas that interest you or where you feel they will make a real difference for you personally. I found the daily online updates and check in’s helpful in encouraging accountability. That said, a key element of the programme for me was the wonderful support Coach Ann provided, especially in the 1:1 sessions. In these sessions we would discuss my successes and challenges. Through that I gained so much. Coach Ann’s questions and observations were thought-provoking, encouraging and insightful. It really helped me to recognise my strengths and how to channel them. It also made me look closely at my mindset and what was working for me and what might be worth challenging. This is what I will take forward with me on my nutrition journey.
