Maintenance Days – Keeping the Club Looking Good!

We take great pride in keeping the Club not only looking its best for our members but also ensuring the downtime of any equipment or facilities is kept to an absolute minimum. Breakdowns are of course inevitable, but we invest a lot of time and resource into our preventative maintenance programme to try to keep all the equipment and facilities running smoothly. We hope you notice!

One of the things we do to aid this preventative maintenance programme is unique in the industry, as we close the Club for two days a year until 5.30pm for our maintenance days. These maintenance days are very important to the way that we try to operate the Club, enabling us to maintain the high quality of the facilities, reducing our need to close areas or take equipment out of service, and generally keeping the Club at the leading edge of the industry from a quality point of view.

Those that have been members for some time will by now be familiar with the kind of work we do but for those newer to the Club the days typically comprise a mix of planned maintenance, ad-hoc repairs and cleaning.

Taking each area in turn:

Planned Maintenance & Ad-hoc Repairs

We have a huge amount of expensive plant in the building which needs regular maintenance and our long opening hours can make this difficult to schedule. Ad-hoc repairs can also be tricky – for example in the ladies’ locker room for our male maintenance team!

On the up-coming maintenance day, we have lots of external contractors coming in to do work. Examples of work planned for our next day are:

  • Installation of a brand-new sauna.
  • Service and change all the filters on the air handling units and clean the vents.
  • Service all the air con units.
  • Remove the sink traps, clean and refit.
  • Descale and clean the men’s urinals.
  • Service all the pool plant and steam room.
  • Carry out various plumbing works, checking all the toilet systems, etc around the club.
  • Service and test the sauna suppression system and the fire curtain.
  • Clean, disinfect and service all the drinks fountains.
  • Remove, descale and refit all the shower heads.
  • Paint any areas in the club which need freshening up.
  • Check all the opening and closing of the doors and repair any faults.
  • Inspect and service the automatic doors at reception.
  • All the shower mixers will be having their annual service and temperature checks.
  • Clean all the ventilation ducting which runs around the ceilings in the club.
  • A new wallpaper graphic is going up in the High Impact Studio.
  • Tennis and Squash winners’ boards are being updated.
  • A new Club logo is going up on the wall behind Reception.
  • Service all the kitchen equipment and carry out the gas safety checks.
  • Refurb the vanity unit in the ladies changing room.
  • Drain and inspect the hot water cylinder.
  • Carry out the 12-monthly inspection and repair any fire dampeners in the building.
  • Inspect and test all the emergency panic buttons in the club.

Cleaning

Whilst we invest a huge amount in cleaning the Club, employing our own cleaners and using contractors at night, it is very helpful to have some dedicated time to ensure that cleaning is being done effectively, and to deep clean areas which are hard to do during opening hours.

On the upcoming day, for example, some of the tasks will be as follows:

  • Thorough cleaning of the changing room lockers, including the tops of the lockers.
  • Deep cleaning of the showers, drains, etc.
  • High level cleaning throughout the Club.
  • Thorough clean of all gym and studio equipment, including spin bikes and mats and high-level areas.
  • Cleaning of all tiled areas on poolside.
  • Deep cleaning tasks in the kitchen / bar area such as extraction filters, fryers, steam cleaning the ovens, deep cleaning the coffee machine, etc.
  • Deep clean all the Club Lounge furniture to identify and remove stains.
  • Professional carpet cleaning.

…… and many more……

As you can see, the maintenance days are certainly not a day off for our staff team! We hope you notice a difference when you come back into the Club.
