Fantastic Winter Tennis Season for Club Towers Teams

2 May 2025

The Bedfordshire Clubs 2024/5 Winter Tennis League finished recently, with excellent performances once again. In particular the following teams had very successful campaigns ….

Ladies C – led by Jane Jafarifar, won Division One, winning all 6 matches.

Mixed A – led by Claire Raddan, won Division One, winning all 7 matches. All four of our mixed teams are in this top division, which shows our strength in mixed tennis among the county clubs.

Vets Ladies – led by Nicola Wilson-Fowler, once again finished top of Division One, winning 5 out of 6 matches.

Ladies A – led by Sophie Cable, finished 2nd in the Premier Division, winning 5 out of 6 matches. The one match they lost was to a very strong Riverside A on the day, but through the winter as whole our team conceded fewer games than any other team.

Open A – led by Garry Morris, finished tied in 2nd place (on total points scored) with Flitwick A – below Riverside A in the Premier Division.

Open B – led by Paul Thomas, –  below Potton A and Woburn Sands A in Division One. They actually beat Potton in the head-to-head and narrowly lost against Woburn …. Great effort guys!

Vets Open A – led by Glenn Rudd, finished in 3rd place below Riverside A and Flitwick A in Division One.

Vets Mixed A – led by Glenn Rudd, finished in 3rd place below Flitwick and Riverside A in Division One.

You can view the final division places for the whole league here.

Well done to all our captains and players for representing the Club with pride and distinction, with special congratulations to Jane, Claire, Nicola and all your players …. Worthy champions indeed!

How to Get Involved

We always welcome new blood in to our teams. Captains are often on the lookout to bolster their squads with players who commit to playing home and away matches. We recommend you make yourself known to the Team captains by challenging them to a game by organising a four? This is a great way to find the right level team for you and to mix in with the players. Please be patient as we have large squads currently.  Captains’ details and player names in each team can be found on the Tennis noticeboard in the squash corridor.

We have 18 Teams in total, with most being Main teams who play at 7pm on weekday evenings and Vets teams who play at 10am on weekdays. There are occasional matches on Saturday mornings. The qualifying ages for Vets are O50 for Men and O45 for ladies.

Matches involve two rubbers per pair, totalling four sets plus possibly deciding tie-breaks if the scores are tied at 1-1. There are teas after the match so a typical match will last for around 3 hours. Match fees are collected by the captains to cover the cost of the food and balls provided. Players who commit to our club teams are often invited to attend group coaching sessions and practice sessions with other teams. The coaching session schedule is advertised ahead on the fixtures sheet on the main noticeboard, and players are invited via WhatsApp group messages.

For more information on these sessions and to be introduced to captains please contact Steve Adams at [email protected]
