Christmas Cheer Alive and Well on the Courts

28 December 2024

As part of our Christmas celebration we held two racquets events our regular Christmas Jumper tennis tournament and a relatively new Squash event where we pair adults and juniors together for a competition. Both had great entries this year and we share a few details about them along with some pictures below..

Xmas Jumper Tennis Tournament

Sixteen players entered our fun tennis event in the dome at our Xmas Celebration Night on 6th December, with festive dress and music to boot. Coach Danny created a fun format with four players in each of four aptly named groups, …The Bauble Babes, The Crackers, The Comets and the Naughty Elves.

Danny cleverly seeded the players so that all groups were finely balanced to match up well against each other, and four rounds of matches were played as the players competed against players in other groups. The final group results were very close as follows …

1st          Naughty Elves (Alan, Charlotte, Ed and Kathy)    294 points

2nd       Crackers (Alex, Carole, Missy and Paul)             293 points

3rd       Comets (Jane, Jenny, Lynne and Pauline)           283 points

4th       Bauble Babes (Harriet, Krystal, Sarah and Vanessa)        277 points

The individual winners were …

1st        Kathy    83 points

2nd        Ed        81 points

3rd        Harriet   79 points

We had some lovely feedback from the players afterwards, and quote of the night goes to Carole Watts …… “Great fun all!! Thanks to Danny & Steve, plus Harriet & Missi for the yummy treats plus everyone else for a great evening. I learned something too…if I drink mulled wine 🍷 BEFORE I enter the bubble, my hands stay warm & I’m not freezing!🥶 I’ll have to stock up to keep me sorted through February.

Adult/Junior Squash Tournament

Seven juniors paired with seven adults in this fun squash challenge at our Xmas Celebration Night on 6th December. Each junior played in turn against the other adults and built up points on the night. We spiced it up with bonus points awarded to the juniors for hitting balloons on the front walls, and adults penalised a point if they hit a balloon. It was great to see the juniors’ determination to beat the adults, resulting in some fantastic rallies.

Well done to Alex, Alfie, Annabel, Charlotte, Florrie, Jai and Ryan and a big thanks to the adults for taking part and playing in a great spirit of encouragement towards the juniors.

Congratulations to our winning pair – Alfie and Brook
