Bedfordshire Make Memorable Debut at Inter-County Racketball Championships

Bedfordshire proudly entered a team into the Inter-County Racketball Championships for the very first time this year, marking an exciting milestone for racketball in the county.

Representing Bedfordshire were Sam Morris, Ryan Pescod, Manjit Ubhi, Matt Towers, Ian Thomas and Ben Shakespeare, with support from Lee Tribe. The squad brought together players from Club Towers and David Lloyd MK, all eager to test themselves against some of the strongest county teams in the country.

The event took place at the excellent Hinckley Squash & Racketball Club on Saturday 6th June, attracting counties from across England. Bedfordshire found themselves drawn in a challenging B-grade group alongside Yorkshire C, Leicestershire B and Lincolnshire, with each fixture consisting of three singles matches and one doubles match.

The opening encounter against a young, athletic and highly competitive Yorkshire C side proved to be a tough introduction to the event. Despite the 4-0 scoreline, the Bedfordshire players gained valuable experience and quickly adapted to the high standard of competition on display.

Next up was Leicestershire B, another strong and experienced outfit. Bedfordshire produced a much-improved performance, with several closely contested matches and signs that the team was beginning to find its rhythm. Although the result again went in favour of the opposition, the squad showed great determination and continued to battle throughout every match.

The final fixture against Lincolnshire provided the breakthrough Bedfordshire had been working towards all day. The team delivered its strongest performance of the tournament, winning two of the three singles matches. While the doubles match was narrowly lost, a crucial game secured in the final singles encounter proved enough to edge Bedfordshire ahead overall and claim their first inter-county victory.

For a squad making its debut appearance at the Championships, the day was a tremendous success. The players represented Bedfordshire with pride, professionalism and excellent team spirit, gaining invaluable experience as the day progressed.
