Advanced Lifters Power Ahead
Following in the footsteps of last year’s groups, a third set of eager members have just completed PT Neeraj’s Advanced Strength Course with equally impressive results!
To jog your memory, the 8-week course designed by Neeraj starts with a test week to set a baseline for each participant. This is followed by “building stability” to prevent injury and hypertrophy to begin the “Strength Building” phase. This phase goes on to cover “Loading” and “De-loading” Power Training and the participants’ ability to combine the two.
Prior to starting, all the participants had some weight training experience to varying degrees and this course included two returning attendees. Both had enjoyed the last course so much they came back for more, seeing further increases in strength and power. Always expertly guided by Neeraj, it was clear to see the support that a group training environment gave them, with clapping, cheering and encouragement in every session.

Returning participant Colette said: ‘although I picked up from where I left off, I was even more focused on upping my strength and stability and I’m even more confident in the gym now. I cannot recommend this course enough – especially to women over 50!’
This group of participants increased their upper body strength overall by 33% (tested via Bench Press), their lower body strength by 47% (tested via Leg Press) and their power by 10% (tested via the Ski-Erg). Do remember that the Ski-Erg is already a ‘sprint’ and the 10% increase from this group, beat both of last year’s groups – amazing!

The group camaraderie was a pleasure to see and their enjoyment of the course was often the talk of the changing rooms! We think all nine participants should be very proud of their achievements over the 8-week period and it has been Neeraj’s pleasure to guide them all the way. To highlight just a few of the members’ individual performances:
• Chantal saw huge gains in both upper and lower body strength, with 50% and 86% increases respectively. This was alongside a 7% increase in power from the Ski-Erg, incredible!
• Not at all new to weights or strength training, Ankur achieved 23% and 40% increases in upper and lower body strength, alongside a massive 11% increase in power output. Ankur commented; ‘you really inspired me to do new exercises and reduce the risk of boredom Neeraj – the group dynamics were great! Very impressed with the strength increase that I didn’t think would be possible.’ Well done Ankur!
• One of the participants this time around was our lovely Yoga instructor Bindy who has found the course to be a game changer for her. She saw increases of 29% in upper and 43% in lower body strength. When she’s not teaching Yoga you’ll now find her in the gym! Great work Bindy!

• Finally both Jackie and Monika not only smashed the strength gains with 45% and 36% upper body increases respectively and 50% and 60% lower body increases, they also managed whopping 12% and 16% power increases. Incredible! A regular Group Cycle attendee, Jackie remarked: ‘I used equipment I’ve walked past for the last 5 years!’
