Do we have a good format?
The Club Championships are the main event in our tennis calendar and require careful planning and scheduling. The format is well established but we always review what went well – and ask ourselves what can we do better next year? Last year we tweaked a few things and introduced the Plate competitions for first round losers to stay involved and to celebrate success across all levels. We also introduced score callers in each final, which we believe increased spectator engagement and helped the finalists to concentrate in their matches too. One subject that crops up every year is at what age should the Vets and Supervets categories be set? We have debated this many times and there are pros and cons to any change we make. We are interested in members’ views so when the dust settles after this year’s championships in October we will poll all the contestants who entered this year. There is no need to tell us now but the plan is to ask for your feedback in late October. By entering this year your views will help us to evolve the format further.
